Many of us have seen label on various products stating something along the lines of: “This bag is biodegradable and compostable. Please remove tin tie and valve before composting.” So is it biodegradable or compostable? — there is an overwhelming amount of information out there.
Biodegradable vs Compostable
Compostable materials are similar to biodegradable materials, as they are both intended to go back to nature eventually. Biodegradable materials are designed to break down within commercial landfills and unfortunately not all cities have this capability. Compostable bags are plant-based and break down naturally, and additionally provide other benefits including fertilizing and improving soil health.
Our 100% Compostable Packaging
Because there is a ton of information out there, we are here to help if you are looking for eco-friendly packaging. At Yayyy, we don’t carry “60-percent compostable and 40-percent non-biodegradable bags.” We make 100% compostable packaging. We wanted to provide the best option to our customers. We are very proud that our compostable bags are backyard friendly and can break down in just over 60 days. Our materials are certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute, a third-party organization that certifies entire products that meet the US Standard ASTM D6400 or D6868. Based on our experience, this is the most challenging test in the packaging world. The whole process can take more than a year.
Coffee packaging
For coffee roasters and lovers, great news! Our zipper and valve bags are 100% compostable too. There is no need to ask your customers to remove tin-toe and valves prior to composting. Amazing, right?
You can see the progress after 30 days.
